Sanjaya Man Shrestha aka Sanjaya Shrestha , lead singer and the frontman of the band Crossroads, was born on 27th March 1968 in Janakpur. He began his musical journey with a superhit song “Maya Meri Maya”. After the song, Shrestha decided to quit his business and focus entirely on music. Since then, he has given numbers of hit songs. His music is also popular among the audiences of today’s generation.
Shrestha and his band Crossroads is loved by many people in Nepal. One of his newest performance also includes sharing a stage in Sydney with today’s band Albatross for his hit song “Maya Meri Maya”. Shrestha also gets engaged in social works.
He has his own youtube channels as well where he shares his music. His music genre includes wester style music but with the traditional Nepali instruments. He was also the favorite singer of the late prince of Nepal, Dipendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, and also sang a song with him.

Sanjaya Shrestha was born in Janakpur. He still visits the town and it is very close to his heart. The warm air of Janakpur, the fields, and the hays are still part of his childhood.
He came to Kathmandu at a very young age and continued his studies. Before beginning his musical journey, he worked in the travel sector. He had his travel company and the competition among the travel companies was really tough.
Shrestha enjoyed and loved music from a really young age. He has two friends who used to love music too and could play the guitar. Slowly, he got to know more people who belonged in the music industry. It was the year 1991 that together as a group, they decided to record a song. Each member contributed NRs. 500 and it took them 32 days to finally finish it.
It was the song “Maya Meri Maya”. After finishing the recording, the band listened to the song and felt like they could sing like The Eagles, The Beatles, and Scorpions. He was so happy that he and the band wanted to know what it would be like to have an entire album.
Shrestha then decided to sell his company and focus on his musical journey. It was not that Shrestha was not doing bad in the business but he got more invitations from the music sector. The superhit “Maya Meri Maya” was created in 1991, but the band Crossroads became official in 1992.
Crossroads gave many other hits. A few of the favorites of Shrestha besides “Maya Meri Maya” are “Euta Gaun Thiyo” and “Meri Aama”.
He has also performed live in Radio Nepal and had to practice for 20 days before going. Those days did not have mechanics to help them with voice and tune. He sang three songs in Radio Nepal live. Before singing for Radio Nepal, he failed the voice test but gave it another shot.
Those days music was sold in cassettes. And to avoid piracy, they used to sign and stamp each cassette and give it to the dealers.
After Crossroads, Shrestha also contributed in advertisements. Nikon air and Iceberg beer were few of his most popular ad jingles. He has also sung in films like Biyog.
Moreover, he has also been in politics. In 2013, he was a part of the local election of the constituent assembly and was presenting Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
These days he also participates in social events. The latest social event he made contributions on was People to People एक अर्काका लागि for victims of the flood.
Sanjaya Man Shrestha is the native of Janakpur and loves the town wholeheartedly. He is a simple person who loves a simple life. No matter what opportunities he had, he never let pride take over him and still enjoys the simple things in life.
For him, his biggest inspiration in music has always been Narayan Gopal. Besides playing the guitar, he can also play the flute. He loves an active lifestyle so he loves going to the gym and traveling.
