Deepak Bista (Olympian) is a most successful Nepalese taekwondo athlete, who holds the record for the first South Asian player to win four consecutive Gold medalist in South Asian Game. He is the taekwondo black belt 6th Dan holder as his professional qualification. When he was a yellow belt in 1996, he won his first Gold medal in his life in the National Taekwondo Championship held in Hetauda. He won a bronze medal at the 2002 Asian Games held in Busan, South Korea. He won the bronze medal in the welterweight category (-78 kg) at the 2006 Asian Games and competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He became the best player in Asian Olympics Qualification Tournaments in 2008. At the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, he was the flagbearer for Nepal. He has been awarded numerous honour ship and titles. Some of his awards are; the title of the Best Player Award of the Year 2003 prize by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Paras Bir Bikram Shahadev (2004), Suprabal Gorkha Dakchhin Bahu (3rd) from His Majesty Late King Birendra Bir Bikram Shahadev (1999), Subikhayat Trishathi Patta (3rd) prize by His Majesty the King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shahadev (2003), Supradipta Birendra Prajatantra Bhaskar (3rd) prize by His Majesty the King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shahadev (2005), Samsung Blue Passion Award in Asian Olympic Qualifying Game (2007), Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) LG Player of the Year Award (2007). Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) Player of the Year Award (2007), Dasharath Chand Medhavi Honour in 2010, Yuba Pratibha and Khelkud Samman by Sports Ministry (2010).
